Joshua Davis, better known as DJ Shadow, whose musical career has outlived many a troubled youth, has released his fourth album The Less You Know, The Better. To be fair, it isn't really his fourth because he's made a figurative million other EPs, mixtapes and compilations, but this count doesn't consider Preemptive Strike, Psyence Fiction or Diminishing Returns.

Behind the Shadow

All hail the Bumper Bed by Marc Newson, where bumper car meets bed meets art meets bedroom furniture. The Sydney-born, London-based industrial designer continues to impress with his visionary aesthetic. Created for the collection of French craftsmen extraordinaires Domeau & Pérès, this piece was also designed to cause “people like me to replace their faithful mattress with a ‘beautiful bed’”–says Mark Newson who slept on a mattress on the floor until 1997. Inspired by things like boxing rings and life rafts, this bed uses upholstered polyurethane foam blocks and elastic webbing to frame your mattress with a thick semi-solid edge that you can sit on. See here for more information.

Fans of the Fujifilm X100S may be happy to learn that they’re finally releasing it in black to match the X100. The Japanese company has revealed the X100S Black, which is essentially the same high-end, retro-styled camera as its silver counterpart — except in a sober, blackened hue. Perennially chic in classic black, this model will be a keeper at the same price as before — $1,299 USD. The black beauties are scheduled to hit shelves in February. Find more information at Fujifilm.

This is a tale about the legendary ‘Flu Game’ of the 1997 Finals–Game 5–where Michael Jordan beat the flu, the Jazz, and bequeathed his own Jordans to a former Delta Center ballboy for so thoughtfully bringing him applesauce. It was a glorious win for the Bulls, and a touching tale for Preston Truman who still has those humongous size 13 shoes that no one has yet filled. Truman has turned down invitations to sell them over the years, including an $11,000 offer 16 years ago. Now at 35, he is ready to part with them.

Ever wondered if food was to blame for your feelings? It has been noted for some time now, that slightly underfed populations tend to live longer. In fact, protein calorie wasting is often seen as compensating for illness. The natural state of the human body appears at its most efficient in a slightly underfed state--calorie utilization improves, adrenaline levels are higher and immunity is enhanced as the body gears up to seek food. Also, the effects of diet on mood and behavior have been undeniable for a while now, even in scholastic circles. A Harvard paper published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research 1982-1983 Volume 17 Issue 2 reported findings of experimental research conducted in conjunction with US Army R&D Laboratories.

Winged House
by K2LD Architects

The Winged House is a remarkably triangular private residence located on the tropical island of Singapore. Its architectural frame features two adjacent trapeziums on a triangulated plot of land. These embracing forms open towards lush greenery at the back of the site, at the same time carving out a cozy private garden in the middle. Inspired by traditional Malay housing, the folding trapeziums let in fresh air for relief from tropical heat while the extended eaves provide shelter and shade from seasonal downpours. An airy living room is flanked by granite feature walls, providing heavy contrast against the lighter timber used throughout the rest of the house. This house is the proud design work of local firm K2LD Architects.

8 Steps to Breaking Yourself Free of Credit Card Debt

Is credit becoming more of a burden than a blessing?

As another fiscal year draws to a close, it’s time for us to take inventory of our finances again. Even though a balance sheet and annual report isn’t necessary for individuals, it’s important to sit down and put some thought into planning our resources for the year ahead.

Small People, Big Appetites

Christopher Boffoli is the Seattle-based photographer with a huge obsession with tiny people. Using everyday foods and miniature model figures, he presents his latest series “Big Appetites”– a visual parody and mock commentary on the American culture of over-consumption. The common cultural theme of disproportionate people goes as far back as Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels, if not earlier, and harkens to childhood fantasies and make-believe tales. “I chose food as a backdrop because it is a constant,” declared Boffoli. “People see a striking image of food and are immediately drawn in because it is something familiar.”
